Service Description

Wednesday April 23, 30 & May 7 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Cost $45 plus $10 materials fee Let’s create a beautiful Japanese drawstring rice bags in this nine-hour class. The bags, called komekoburo bags were used in Japan to carry items for temple offerings, to give as gifts to friends and family and many other purposes. You can make these bags any size and use them as handbags, jewelry bags, knitting or sewing bags. They also make beautiful gifts. You can use basic material or you can patch together materials to make a true work of art. We will use five 7 or 9 inch squares of either silk, linen or cotton fabric for the outer bag and another 5 squares for the lining. Fabrics, thread, pins will be provided. Bring your pins, scissors, your favorite sewing machine and your basic knowledge of sewing. These komebukuro bags make beautiful pieces of fabric art and are fun to construct. Ways to pay: 1. By cash placed in payment jar in your classroom Jackie Amatucci has been a mixed media artist for over 10 years. She also is a potter, jewelry maker, basket maker and seamstress. She loves sharing her skills and delights in supporting others to make their own masterpieces. Jackie is co-founder of Create Space Langley. As a high school teacher for 30 years, her love of teaching and learning has never waned. Jackie was a teaching artist at Power of Hope Teen Camps for many years. She currently is a mentor and teaching artist for Seattle-based Young Women Empowered. She regularly taught sewing, mixed media art, and jewelry making at Create Space Langley prior to the covid shut down.
